Applying For A Firearm

If you need to apply for a firearm, please visit the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) website. There, you will complete the application for your NJ Firearms Purchaser Identification (FID) Card and/or your Permit to Purchase a Handgun.

You will need your municipality’s ORI number. Click here to locate it.
(Format example: NJ + 0 + your 4-digit code + 00.)

 

Please note: For first-time applicants, both a Firearms ID Card and a Handgun Permit are required.

If you anticipate purchasing more than one firearm, we recommend applying for a minimum of three permits.
